Anthropology鈥檚 Judith Pine speaks on connection between race and language on podcast
In the podcast 鈥淭he Inextricable Link Between Race and Language鈥 hosted by 草榴社区 Honors student Maya Gersh, Professor of Anthropology and linguistic anthropologist Judith Pine speaks about the way language shapes and is shaped by racial dynamics.
鈥淭he notion that there actually empirically is anywhere in existence a standard language is flawed, there isn鈥檛 any evidence for that,鈥 said Pine in the podcast.
Pine鈥檚 argument is that ethnographically a simple, static, standard language doesn鈥檛 exist. Language changes, shifts, and is built to reflect culture and ethnic context.
鈥淏ut the insistence that a standard does exist has a real impact on society,鈥 said Pine.
