Art students debut new 'Big Heads' installation in Fine Arts building; will run through March 4
BIG HEADS is an exhibition that showcases the exploration of portraiture and the use of the 4 x 5 view camera. It is on display now through March 4 in the ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Photography Concentration Exhibition Space, Fine Arts Building Second Floor, Room 202.
Working in groups, the Winter 2019 ART 371 students experimented in the lighting studio and with the genre of portraiture. The students scanned and printed their 4 x 5 negatives on a large-scale printer, then mounted prints to board or aluminum.
Very special thanks to Evan Baden, from Oregon State University, who recently introduced Western’s Photography Concentration to a new mounting system, which he demonstrated in the context of the BIG HEADS project. Without Evan’s inspiration and expertise, and the support of the Student Technology Fund, Western students would not have access this new piece of equipment. Additional thanks to Nathan Cranston, MacKenzie Hattrup, Franchine Ninh, and Isaac Sussman.
The participating students are: Joe Addison, Aileen Arguon, Kerry Butowicz, Ella Caplan, Cierra Coppock, Miranda Dean, Chloe Dichter, Payton Dickerson, Shea Dieter, Sam Galus, Michelle Colby Huges, Emily Keogh, Matthew Marinez, Haelee Roman, Madison Schleif, Morgan Stewart, Jackson Sweeny, and Adam Vincent.
