AS REP Hosts State and Local Candidate Forums Oct. 25 and Nov. 1

The AS REP is hosting Local and State Candidate forums to increase student knowledge on local and state level politics as well as encourage informed voting during the 2018 midterm election.

“Voting is important,” said Natasha Hessami, ASVP for Governmental Affairs. “But being an informed voter is imperative.”

Attendees will hear from local candidates who are running to represent the 40th and 42nd Legislative Districts in Washington state at 5 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 25 in Academic West 210.

The following week, local candidates who are running for various positions in Whatcom County will be in attendance for a similarly structured event at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov.1 in Academic West 210.

The AS REP will have prepared questions for candidates centered around student issues. There will be time allotted for questions from the audience.

The events are open to the public and free food will be provided. For those who are unable to attend, the AS FaceBook page will be live streaming the event.

Hessami is encouraging all students, staff, faculty and Bellingham community members to attend.

“Come to the candidate forums to meet the people who make decisions on your behalf,” Hessami said.
