Beware fraudulent credit card activity

On Friday, March 30, Global Payments, Inc., a major online credit card payment processor announced that it had self-identified and self-reported unauthorized access into a portion of its processing system. Reportedly, up to one-and-a-half million card numbers were compromised by “unauthorized access.” Global Payments immediately engaged external experts in information technology forensics and contacted federal law enforcement. The company believes the intrusion has been contained.

While Western Washington University does not have a direct vendor relationship with Global Payments, merchant banks the university works with may use a variety of major payment processors in the course of business. To this date, Western has no reported incidents of compromised accounts or fraudulent activity from the Western community.

This message from Student Financial Services is just to remind the Western community that, if you notice suspicious activity on a credit card account, contact your card issuer immediately.
