In an effort to provide accurate, timely, efficient and best-in-class services to the Western Washington University campus and community customers, the division of Business and Financial Affairs has developed a three-year project plan.

This plan is incorporated into a new Banner Initiatives Charter, approved this past May. The charter includes formation of a new steering committee, co-chaired by Richard Van Dan Hul and John Lawson, vice provost for information technology and Western's chief information officer. Wanna VanCuren, manager of financial systems support, is the overall project manager.

The objective of the new charter is to achieve best-in-class status in conducting the business operations and achieving the objectives of the university. The charter includes a number of processes that warrant a complete review or business process analysis in order to determine how the Banner system can be more efficiently and effectively utilized, as well as how cross-department/divisional processes can be optimized.

The Banner modules and associated business systems within this charter are Purchasing, eProcurement, Travel & Expenses, Grant, General Ledger, Fixed Asset, HRIS, Sequoia (Bookstore), Parking (T2 System/CashNet), FAMIS and any other external data sources that departments are currently using.

Projects currently underway within the new Banner initiatives are “Banner Grant Implementation”; partner with RSP (Office of Research & Sponsorship Programs); “Bookstore Charges to Student Accounts – Sequoia/Banner Integration”; partner with Student Affairs and Academic Support Services; and “Automate Banner Budget and Accounting JVs”.
