Burglary spree off campus targeting laptop computers
A press release from the Bellingham Police Department stated that Apple laptop computers are the focus of a recent string of burglaries near campus in the 1000 block of High Street, 900 block of E. Maple Street, 100 block of Morey Avenue and in the 700 of N. Garden Street. All four burglaries occurred after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30. Three of the residences were entered through an unlocked door, and one residence through an unlocked window.
For our off-campus students in this area, as well as faculty and staff, make sure that the doors and windows of your home are properly locked. Be vigilant for suspicious behavior like a person that is lurking near homes for a long period of time. Call 911 to report suspicious activity.
In addition, take these basic safety measures with your devices:
- Turn off Bluetooth in your system settings to avoid your device being discovered.
- Make sure you have your laptop password protected.
