A major renovation is underway at the Carver Academic Complex in the center of campus. Pedestrian access will be constricted through that area, and other construction impacts will come and go throughout the next two years.

The Carver Academic Complex was built in 1936 with the only major addition 53 years ago. It is the most heavily used building on campus. The project will upgrade substandard seismic and life safety conditions, replace out of date mechanical and electrical systems, improve ADA access, and provide new and upgraded classrooms, labs, activity spaces and additional restrooms. Renovation began in August 2015 and is scheduled to be complete in spring 2017.

The area around the Carver construction site is a walk zone between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Pedestrians have the right of way, always. In the campus walk zones (which also includes Red Square, the PAC Plaza, Vendor's Row)those riding bicycles and skateboards must dismount between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on regular class days, including finals week, throughout the academic year. East College Way along the Sehome Arboretum provides a convenient route for cyclists and skateboarders from one end of campus to the other.

Campus police and safety personnel will be patrolling the walk zones during the first few weeks of school to provide additional education.
