Christopher Reddy's Jan. 28 lecture on gulf oil spill postponed
Christopher Reddy, senior scientist at the Wood’s Hole Oceanographic Institute’s Department of Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry, has had to cancel his Jan. 28 lecture “Hunting for Subsurface Oil Plumes in the Gulf of Mexico Following the Deepwater Horizon Disaster” after flight cancellations due to a winter storm on the East Coast.
Reddy plans to visit Western sometime in the next six weeks to deliver the lecture.
The Deepwater Horizon disaster is the largest marine oil spill in history. Oil plumes produced by the Deepwater Horizon explosion were as large as 10 miles long, three miles wide and 300 feet thick. When he comes to campus, Reddy will be discussing his most recent work, tracking subsurface oil plumes, following the oil spill, and the analysis of their biodegradation.
