Western Washington University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will present “Tartuffe,” directed by Patrick Dizney, Jan. 26 to 29 and Feb. 1 to 5 in the Old Main Theater on Western’s campus.

Written by French playwright Molière, this classic tale of hypocrisy continues to delight and enthrall audiences some 300 years after it was written.

The play follows Tartuffe, who craftily imposes himself on the wealthy estate and family of Orgon under the guise of piety. Most of the family sees right through Tartuffe’s thin veil, with the exception of Orgon, who wields all the power.

As Orgon heaps gift upon gift (including his own daughter) upon the imposter, the family resorts to ever-greater antics in order to open his eyes to the truth about Tartuffe. Some of the best written comedy of the Restoration, “Tartuffe” is sure to please both the theater veteran and novice.

“Tartuffe” will show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, Jan. 26 to 28, as well as on Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 1 to 4. It will also show at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29 and Feb. 5. All performances will be held in the Old Main Theater.
