Coffee Cup Challenge 2019 starts next week, March 4-8
The Office of Sustainability and Zero Waste Western will host their annual Coffee Cup Challenge the week of March 4-8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Red Square. Coffee Cup Challenge is an educational campaign highlighting the overwhelming use of disposable coffee cups on Western鈥檚 campus. By incentivizing students, staff, and faculty to use travel mugs, we hope to create a campus environment where practicing responsible consumption and waste habits is a social norm. Although all coffee cups sold on campus are compostable, coffee cups make up 10 percent of Western's landfill waste stream. Landfills are the world's third largest greenhouse gas producer.
Participants will have the opportunity to enter a raffle and win prizes by guessing how many coffee cups are on display during the event. Prizes have been donated from the following local businesses: Electric Beet Juice Co., Daisy Caf茅, Pure Bliss Desserts, and the Pickford Film Center.
