'Composting 101: The Ecological Art of Decay' workshop series begins in April, and is open to all!

Do you eat food? Would you like to learn how to turn your trash into treasure!?

鈥淐omposting 101: The Ecological Art of Decay鈥 is a free, three-part workshop series where you can learn how composting works, how you can start turning your food waste into a valuable resource, and more!

The series is organized by Aeryn Garvisch, a senior majoring in Environmental Studies.

鈥淚 am extremely excited to be working on this project,鈥 said Garvisch. 鈥淚 am passionate about community skill sharing to cultivate justice and sovereignty in our local food system.鈥

Composting 101 is open to anyone and is free to participate. You can even borrow a food waste bucket to collect your food scraps. While it is a three-part workshop series, you are not required to attend all three dates, but you鈥檒l learn about different aspects of composting each week that will build on and enhance your knowledge. This workshop will take place over three biweekly Saturdays 鈥 April 12, April 26, and May 10 鈥 from 3 - 4 p.m. at The Outback Farm (South Campus between Fairhaven College and Buchanan Towers).

Please register by March 21 if you need a bucket!

鈥淚鈥檇 like to shout out my project advisors, ENVS professor and soils researcher Andy Bach and Ellie Duncan of City Sprouts Farm and 草榴社区鈥檚 Center for Community Learning,鈥 said Garvisch. 鈥淭heir mentorship has been incredibly influential in my studies, and their support has been integral to the creation of this project.鈥

This workshop series is supported by a Sustainability, Equity, and Justice Fund grant.
