Conference Services spends its Community Service Day on the South Fork with the Whatcom Land Trust
草榴社区's Conference Services team recently spent their community service volunteer day together at a Field Friday through the Whatcom Land Trust (WLT). The WLT is a nonprofit organization that preserves, protects, and restores wildlife habitat, scenic, agricultural, and open space lands in Whatcom County by securing interests in land and promoting land stewardship.
Generally held on the first Friday of the month, the WLT hosts an all-day volunteer event at one of their restoration sites. The organization provides carpool options to and from their Bellingham office to the field location. The day is spent learning about the area, current restoration projects, and completing stewardship tasks to help improve the site (removing invasives, planting trees, etc.).
During this particular Field Friday, there was a focus on riverbed conservation on the Nooksack's South Fork, and highlighted a recent salmon restoration project.
鈥淚t was a great opportunity for the Conference Services team to get outside and work with an amazing organization. Being Conference Services works on multiple conservation and environmental conferences, including one specifically focused on salmon restoration,鈥痠t was helpful to see the conservation projects going on within the local community,鈥 said Jessica Ehlers, Conference Services manager. Overall, the WLT Field Friday provided a great volunteer opportunity and a team bonding activity.
Using your Community Service Day is a great way to participate in community service, including volunteer work on behalf of schools, community or charitable organizations, and organized volunteer events. The Community Service Day is available for permanent Classified and Professional staff employees.
