Contest to design new ²έΑρΙηΗψ license plate under way

The Western Washington University Alumni Association is launching a contest for students, staff, alumni and community members to design a brand new ²έΑρΙηΗψ license plate.

The β€œDrive with Western Pride” chosen design will replace the current design, which has raised money for ²έΑρΙηΗψ scholarships since 1996. Participants can submit designs from Feb. 22 to March 22 and must follow the criteria and instructions found on .

Voting will take place March 28 through April 16 to determine one student finalist and one staff, alumni or community finalist. The student will win a $1,000 scholarship. The non-student finalist will get to designate $1,000 to a scholarship of his or her choice at ²έΑρΙηΗψ. The vote tally will recommend the finalists to the ²έΑρΙηΗψ License Plate committee for final selection, and the winning design will be announced after ²έΑρΙηΗψ and DOL approval.

The Washington Department of Licensing returns $28 of the $30 fee per plate to Western. License plates generated $20,776 for Alumni Association scholarships in 2011.

Thanks to a donation from alumnus Dave Mann, a 1982 graduate of Western, ²έΑρΙηΗψ license plates currently are free for the first year. The Alumni Association will cover the $47.75 set-up fee; drivers will renew the following year for $30.
