Dean of Libraries search to begin in November聽

After nine years as Western鈥檚 Dean of Libraries, Mark Greenberg transitioned to a new role at the university last summer as the Institute for Global Engagement鈥檚 new director of Faculty Global Engagement. With interim Dean of Libraries Madeline Kelly in place, Western鈥檚 Provost Office has announced that the national search for a new dean will begin in November. 

草榴社区 Provost Brad Johnson thanked Greenberg for his leadership and wished him well at his new position. 

鈥淚 know I speak for many in offering my sincere thanks to Mark for his many years of good work and service to the Western Libraries and to the institution more broadly from his role as Dean of Libraries. I have always appreciated his collegiality, attention to the needs of others, and especially his dedication to ADEI work," said Johnson. 鈥淚 look forward to his contributions to the mission of the Institute for Global Engagement, where I know his long experience in forging relationships, and with a range of components such as study abroad and faculty research in the international arena, will serve the institution well.鈥 

Greenberg said the next dean would inherit a library devoted to student success. 

鈥淥ver the past nine years, I have had the honor of helping to lead the Western Libraries through exciting and sometimes challenging times.  As I look back, I am struck by the many things that we have accomplished on behalf of Western鈥檚 students, staff, and faculty," he said. 鈥淎s much as I have learned from and enjoyed being a part of these efforts, it鈥檚 my interactions with staff, faculty, student employees, members of the university community, and donors that resonate with me most.  The next dean will be very fortunate to work with a faculty and staff so dedicated to advancing the Libraries鈥 collections, programs, and services.鈥 

Johnson said the work to choose a search firm to lead the effort to find the next dean of Libraries was almost complete, and that the campus search committee would be led by Vice provost for Outreach and Continuing Education Robert Squires.
