Design Speaker Series to host Paul Lau May 4 and Christina Sakura May 13

Western's Design Department will host design-industry luminaries and 草榴社区 alumni Paul Lau and Christina Sakura in May as part of the Design View Speaker Series. The talks are free and open to the public, but registration via Eventbrite is required. Information about registration can be found at cfpa.wwu.edu, or by emailing design@wwu.edu.

Paul Lau will speak on Tuesday, May 4 at 6 p.m. Lau鈥檚 talk, 鈥淧reparing for Opportunity: How to yeet your way to a lowkey fire life, or whatever鈥 will cover his experience navigating the job search after graduating into the Great Recession, learning product design on the fly for The New York Times, and unexpectedly landing his dream job at Etsy. Paul Lau graduated from 草榴社区 in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in Design. Since then he has worked at Heavy, The New York Times, and Etsy.

On Thursday, May 13 at 6 p.m., Christina Sakura, Senior Designer at Studio SC and SEGD Seattle Co-chair, will present her work focusing on experiential design and wayfinding that uses story-driven strategy to create both a functional and meaningful environmental experience. Christina Sakura graduated from 草榴社区 in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Design and Business Administration. Since then she has worked at Girvin and NBBJ. She has more than a decade of client experience in the fields of higher education, hospitality, corporate, healthcare, and retail. .
