'Dexter' producer to speak on campus tonight
Tim Schlattmann, executive producer of Showtime’s hit show “Dexter,” will present a free talk titled “Writing for the Screen: Big and Small” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, in the Performing Arts Center Concert Hall on the Western Washington University campus.
The free talk is open to the public with general Concert Hall seating provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
The presentation will detail Schlattmann’s career path in Hollywood, as well as discuss industry standards and the writing process. Schlattmann will also field questions from the audience about writing and producing.
A three-time Emmy Award and five-time Writers Guild of America nominee, Schlattmann’s writing credits include ABC’s “Roseanne,” Fox’s “Get Real” starring Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg, the WB’s “Smallville,” and Showtime’s critically acclaimed “Dexter.” Born and raised in Nebraska, Schlattmann was a radio disc jockey and college professor prior to establishing himself as a writer.
In 2008, Schlattmann garnered his first two Writers Guild of America award nominations, one for best dramatic series and an individual recognition for his episode of “Dexter” entitled “The Dark Defender.” That same year, “Dexter” was nominated for an Emmy Award and Golden Globe in the best dramatic series category and it received the prestigious Peabody Award. For three consecutive years following – 2009, 2010, and 2011 – Schlattmann and the “Dexter” writing staff once again received Writers Guild of America, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominations.
Currently serving as an executive producer, Schlattmann is finishing his seventh season on “Dexter” and has a one-hour drama project in development at USA Network entitled “Bang Bang,” co-produced with Pierce Brosnan.
