Educational forum on mental illness set for March 8 on campus
A group of psychology students at Western Washington University is working to hold an educational forum from the National Alliance on Mental Illness on the Western Washington University campus March 8.
The forum, set for 7 to 9 p.m. in Academic Instructional Center West Room 204, will include information about NAMI and resources in Whatcom County as well as the presentation “In Our Own Voice,” created by people living with mental illness.
Three Whatcom County residents will share their stories, allowing students the ability to learn from these men and women whose lives were interrupted by mental illness but who are now role models for hope and recovery. These speakers share compelling and personal testimonies of living with and overcoming the challenges posed by mental illness.
This presentation aims to replace misunderstanding, fear and judgment with insight, awareness and acceptance.
NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by mental illness.
