From the EO Office: Update on sexual violence reporting options
Western is committed to ensuring learning and working environments free of discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual violence. The university engages in ongoing efforts to most effectively prevent and respond to reports of sexual violence, which includes sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, and stalking. These behaviors violate Western’s Policy on Preventing and Responding to Sex Discrimination, Including Sexual Misconduct, as well as civil rights and criminal law.
Students who have experienced any type of sexual misconduct including sexual violence perpetrated by another student may report such behavior to the , (on-campus incidents) and (off-campus incidents).The Office of Student Life/Student Conduct Officer will no longer investigate reports of sexual misconduct, including sexual violence. Faculty and staff may report to the Equal Opportunity Office/Title IX Coordinator and/or University Police as well.
, the and the continue to provide confidential support, mental health care, and medical care for students who experience sexual violence. For faculty and staff, the continues to provide confidential support, and administers protected leave related to sexual violence. All students, faculty and staff may also wish to contact confidential resources off campus, such as (DVSAS) in downtown Bellingham, the , the , and (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network).

In addition to investigating reports of sexual violence, the Equal Opportunity Office continues to address concerns and investigate complaints regarding discrimination and harassment based on race, color, sex, religion, creed, national origin, gender identity and expression, disability, sexual orientation, age, veteran status and marital status. The EO Office is located in Old Main 345 and can be reached at (360) 650-3307. The university’s provides a way for individuals to anonymously report incidents of possible bias, but follow-up may be limited depending on how much information is shared.
