Western Washington University Professor of English Laura Laffrado has successfully completed her campaign to raise funds for a bronze bust of celebrated Pacific Northwest author, Ella Rhoads Higginson.

At the turn of the 20^th century, Higginson was the most influential Pacific Northwest literary writer in the U.S. Among her many honors and awards, she was named the first Poet Laureate of Washington state in 1931.

Laffrado launched her campaign through Western’s VikingFunder site, receiving generous donations from faculty, staff, students and friends of Western. The bust will be completed and unveiled in the next six to eight months, and located in the Wilson Library Reading Room.

Laffrado is an award-winning author who is most recently the editor of the collection, “Selected Writings of Ella Higginson: Inventing Pacific Northwest Literature.”
