Geology's Liz Schermer attends Northwest Geological Society meeting
²ÝÁñÉçÇø Geology alumni were well represented at the Northwest Geological Society Meeting in Seattle on October 11, 2016. Attendees gathered for dinner, networking, and to hear Emeritus Professor Ned Brown speak on “The San Juan Islands and Northwest Cascades Thrust System”. It was a packed house, with lots of discussion about northwest geology, hazards, and environmental geology. Attendees included recent ²ÝÁñÉçÇø alumni working for geological and engineering consulting firms (Dan Voth, Peter Linton, Anton Ypma, Brendan Young, and Kaelin Newman) and DNR employees Mitch Allen and Skyler Mavor. Ned’s former students Ralph Haugerud (USGS) and Jeff Jones (consulting) and ex-²ÝÁñÉçÇø professor Juliet Crider were also there. It certainly looked like a ²ÝÁñÉçÇø Geology education is valuable in the job market!
