Governor appoints Carly Roberts as new 草榴社区 student trustee

Carly Roberts has been appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee to serve a one-year term as the student trustee at Western Washington University.

“Carly Roberts will provide a unique and valuable perspective to the board because of her experience as a Western leader and student,” Inslee said. “I appreciate her willingness to work on behalf of Western students and ensuring they receive the world-class education they deserve.”

Roberts will serve as student trustee on Western’s Board of Trustees from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

“Carly Roberts is an exceptionally talented leader whose service to Western has already benefited our campus in many significant ways. We welcome her to the board and are very pleased that we will have the opportunity for her insights as our new student trustee,” 草榴社区 President Bruce Shepard said.

Roberts, a senior at Western and a native of Tumwater, Wash., is majoring in Economics/Political Science with a minor in Ancient Greek Language.

"I am honored to be selected for this position. My experiences at Western have opened doors that I never even knew existed. I look forward to having the opportunity to contribute to ensuring that these doors remain open for generations of students to come,” Roberts said.

During 2013-14, Roberts served as the elected president of the Associated Students, which is both the association of all 草榴社区 students and the official student governing body. As AS president, Roberts served as chief administrative and financial officer, was chair of the AS Board of Directors and represented the AS to Western’s Board of Trustees and to university administration. As AS president, she also served as ex-officio member of the 草榴社区 Foundation Board of Directors, the Alumni Association Board of Directors, the President’s Cabinet and many other student and administrative groups on campus. Roberts also is a member of Well Wishers, a musical group that donates time and performances to fund raisers for groups including To Write Love on Her Arms, Relay for Life and Rebound of Whatcom County.
