Interim Title IX Policy and Procedure

Dear Western Community,

Western Washington University does not discriminate on the basis of sex in the education programs and activities that it operates. As a recipient of federal funds, the University is required by Title IX of the Education Amendments act of 1972 to not discriminate in such a manner. The requirement not to discriminate in education programs or activities extends to admissions and employment. Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the University鈥檚 Title IX Coordinator or to the Assistant Secretary of the Department of Education鈥檚 Office for Civil Rights, or both.

Pursuant to 鈥擭ONDISCRIMINATION ON THE BASIS OF SEX IN EDUCATION PROGRAMS OR ACTIVITIES RECEIVING FEDERAL FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, Western has adopted the following interim policies and procedures addressing sexual harassment under Title IX:

Any person may report sex discrimination, including sexual harassment (whether or not the person reporting is the person alleged to be the victim of conduct that could constitute sex discrimination or sexual harassment), in person, by mail, by telephone, or by electronic mail, using the contact information listed for the Title IX Coordinator, or by any other means that results in the Title IX Coordinator receiving the person鈥檚 verbal or written report. Such a report may be made at any time throughout the year, including during non-business hours.

Reporting Requirement under Western Policy 1600.04

Employees have a duty to promptly report to the Title IX Coordinator any known or suspected incidents of sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct, with the exception of those employees statutorily excluded from this responsibility (). Students and visitors are encouraged to report any known or suspected incidents of sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct. The University prohibits retaliation or encouraging others to retaliate against anyone reporting or believed to have reported a violation of this policy. Retaliation will be considered as a separate action, under POL-U1600.02, whether or not the original complaint is substantiated. 草榴社区 will take responsive action if retaliation occurs.
