Bellingham-based ballet revisits history
When Mayor Dan Pike issues a formal apology to the Chinese community this week at a unique gathering at the Whatcom Museum, it鈥檒l be part of an ongoing effort to make sure an ugly part of Bellingham鈥檚 history鈥攕pecifically, the brutal 1885 expulsion of Chinese citizens from the area鈥攏ever repeats itself.
Similarly, the Northwest Ballet Theatre鈥檚 (NBT) latest production, 鈥淓merald Bay,鈥 seeks to both draw attention to past wrongs as well as highlight the contributions made by a the cultural m茅lange of people who made their homes in the region during that same time frame.
