Cates' first goal lifts Vikings over Central
Midfielder Kelly Cates made the first goal of her three-year Viking career a big one as Western Washington University beat Central Washington University, 1-0, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game Saturday, Sept. 17, at Orca Field.
Cates, who also wore the captain's armband for the first time in place of injured defender Alicia Patten, scored in the 52nd minute, when her first-touch strike from 25 yards out floated into the upper left corner of the net.
