'Couv Connections: Longhouse Legacy
Mariah Reese, Executive Director of the Lelooska Foundation, and niece of Chief Lelooska, reports that there has been a rebirth of culture along the West Coast. Pacific tribes have recovered many ceremonial masks over the last few decades, and work has begun on recreating ceremonial houses. She鈥檚 excited to see a renewed interest in preserving culture, because she understands how distinct and varied each tribe鈥檚 customs are. 鈥淲hat visitors experience here is one family鈥檚 image on one spot on the coast. Every potlatch is unique. What you鈥檇 witness with our family is very different than somewhere just a few miles away.鈥
