First Amendment advocate to speak at 草榴社区

In 1965, three teenage students in Des Moines, Iowa, walked into school wearing black armbands to mourn those killed on both sides of the Vietnam War and support Sen. Bobby Kennedy鈥檚 call for a Christmas truce.
They were suspended from school.
The students sued the school district, saying it had violated their First Amendment rights to free speech. The case made its way to the Supreme Court, which ruled 7-2 that students and teachers do not 鈥渟hed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate.鈥
