Gregoire asks agencies to scrimp even more
Nothing is apparently too small to cut when faced with a $2 billion state budget shortfall.
Gov. Chris Gregoire sent out a directive Friday telling agencies, among other things, to look for ways to reduce the number of cellphones and land lines and shrink the size of the state's fleet of cars and trucks.
In addition, the governor plans to take action that would extend from seven to 10 years the requirement for new automobile license plates; eliminate the printing and distribution of state wall calendars; and increase use of electronic communications, such as email, for state correspondence.
