Nearly 400 people gathered Tuesday at Congregation Beth Israel to honor the memory of Noémi Ban, a  survivor who lived through the darkest of nights to teach tens of thousands of people about the power of love over hate and bigotry.

“Our hearts are broken,” Rabbi Joshua Samuels said during her memorial service at the Bellingham synagogue. “Noémi’s life was simply remarkable. We will miss her sorely.”
