Legislators unveil $479M in initial budget cuts
Legislative leaders unveiled a budget plan Monday that seeks to trim $479 million from the state's $1.4 billion deficit through a combination of cuts, fund transfers and delayed payments.
Budget leaders began discussing the proposal in committees Monday afternoon, and the House may vote on it as early as Tuesday. Top lawmakers are seeking to send the measure to the governor later this week, though they will have to return in January to make deeper cuts.
