A woman whose apartment was destroyed by last week’s apartment fire on Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard said she spotted a light on and “shadowy figures walking around” the courtyard of the complex the night before the blaze.

Abby Quarterman, 26, said she noticed the light and movement about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. She said she didn't think much of it because the site, located adjacent to her duplex, was under construction and she saw people in hard hats at the site Wednesday night.

“I thought they were doing some last-minute stuff for the night,” she said.
