Report: Bridge collapse kept Canadian shoppers away

After the Skagit River Bridge collapsed May 23, many business owners in Burlington and Mount Vernon reported declines in customer traffic of 15 to 80 percent, including patronage by increasingly important Canadian shoppers.
A recent report from Western Washington University鈥檚 Border Policy Research Institute has provided a quantifiable look into how much the bridge collapse and subsequent traffic detours and jams had on the percentage of Canadian customers filling parking lots along Interstate 5.
