Senate Dems: Hold line on public college tuition
The state鈥檚 Senate Democrats are not submitting quietly under the thumb of a Democrat-led Republican coalition that is running the Legislature鈥檚 upper chamber.
Under a plan unveiled Tuesday, Democrats would halt soaring college tuition increases for two years, develop a new program in which public colleges 鈥渆arn鈥 additional money, preserve the state鈥檚 Guaranteed Education Tuition program and move back toward a 50/50 funding split between state support and tuition.
The plan faces big obstacles in the Legislature鈥檚 upper chamber.
