State might not need a WSU medical school, some experts say
In 2006, alarmed that the nation鈥檚 medical schools were producing too few doctors, the Association of American Medical Colleges issued an urgent call for a 30 percent increase in slots for first-year medical students.
Since that time, 16 colleges and universities around the country have created new medical schools, and an additional seven are in the pipeline for accreditation. At the same time, enrollment at osteopathic medical schools has doubled.
