Wallet survives fire, water and 53 years in hiding

"The brown wallet found during the cleanup of fire-ravaged Whatcom Middle School holds everything you'd expect a 14-year-old to have in 1956 or 1957.

A raffle ticket for the Rainbow Girls Drill Team fund. A dog license. YMCA and student body cards. And a host of black and white photographs.

"It's a little slice of Americana," said Principal Jeff Coulter, who believes the wallet has been hidden inside the Bellingham school for the more than 50 years."
