Washington rates B-minus for integrity; is No. 3

More than half of states earned a D grade or lower in the first nationwide examination of state government structures to encourage transparency and discourage corruption. Washington earned a B-minus grade with a score of 83 points out of 100 – the third best overall for transparency and accountability behind New Jersey (87) and Connecticut (86). California (81) and Nebraska (80) rounded out the top 5 states with B-grades; 19 other states got Cs, 18 got Ds and eight got Fs.
