Woods associate professor writes, arranges songs for choirs, instrumental ensembles
The gray November sky outside the windows provided the only light in John McIntyre's classroom in the Conservatory of Music at St. Mary-of-the-Woods College.
The dimness allowed his music history students to see a PowerPoint display on legendary German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The ambiance clashed with the colorful stories and quips delivered by McIntyre, a tall guy with wavy hair and a dark suit. When a snippet of Beethoven's 9th Symphony (the 2nd Movement) hummed through the stereo system in the room, McIntyre said, "People my age will remember this as the theme to the 'Huntley-Brinkley Report.'"
Then he grinned, knowingly. That NBC nightly newscast ended in 1970, long before these students were born.
