Japanese graphic artist to share techniques for improving classrom harmony May 10 in Bond Hall 150
Yuki Matsumura, with 24 years' experience as a graphic designer and art director and as a university teacher in and around Kyoto, Japan, will speak on the Western Washington University campus from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10.
Matsumara, currently a Ph.D. student at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, will share results of her research on how a design project with Japanese elementary students enabled them to see each other’s creativity and improved classroom harmony. There will be an opportunity to discuss implications for university students.
Matsumara's presentation, "Re-creating a Traditional Japanese Card Game to Enhance Students' Learning," will be translated by Junko Yamaji.
The event will take place in the Center for Educational Equity & Diversity in Bond Hall Room 150. The room is a change from earlier announcements. This presentation is sponsored by the Art Department, the Center for East Asian Studies, the Liberal Studies Department, the Teaching-Learning Academy in Western Libraries, Woodring College of Education and by the Kyoto Insititute of Technology.
