May 20 event to showcase Center for Service-Learning projects at 草榴社区

Western Washington University students, faculty members and community partner organizations work together throughout the year on projects through the Center for Service-Learning at 草榴社区, and that work will be highlighted at an upcoming showcase from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 20, in the Wilson Library Fourth Floor Rotunda.

The showcase is part of Scholars Week at 草榴社区 and will feature projects by Huxley College of the Environment students and their partnership with the City of Bellingham to promote sustainable community development in the downtown core; 草榴社区's Compass 2 Campus Program, a mentoring initiative supported by the Washington state Senate that places 草榴社区 student mentors with underrepresented fifth grade students throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties; Fairhaven College students' educational campaign concerning the environmental impact of the sale of bottled water; and others.

Students, professors, and community members will share their service and learning experiences with posters and presentations. Refreshments will be provided, and presentations will begin at 4:30 p.m.
