Old Main evacuated after smoke sets off alarms
Old Main was evacuated for approximately 30 minutes at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday after smoke set off fire alarms.
The Bellingham Fire Department and University Police responded. Initial investigation showed that smoke apparently originated from an overheated fan motor on a heater in a fifth floor equipment room, causing smoke to fill the room. There were no injuries. Western technicians and fire personnel are checking out the equipment that likely caused the smoke.
