Opportunities for international work, study and volunteerism to be on display at 草榴社区

Western Washington University’s annual International Opportunities Fair will take place on campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, in the Viking Union Multipurpose Room on campus. Nearly 1,000 students are expected to attend the largest campus-wide event dedicated to providing information about work, volunteer, study and internship positions abroad. Information also will be available on the ample opportunities for people to get involved in international issues locally.

Fair attendees will be able to meet with representatives from approximately 60 organizations. Some participating organizations include the Peace Corps, U.S. Department of State, Semester at Sea, Cross-Cultural Solutions, American Institute for Foreign Study, Adventure Teaching, Community Empowerment Network and a wide range of internationally focused programs at 草榴社区.

Featured will be the 草榴社区 faculty-led study abroad programs during 2010 spring break, summer and next fall. These include Tropical Eco-Farming and Sustainability (Costa Rica), Applied Studies in Sustainable Community Development (Greece), Classical Studies in Athens (Greece), Art History in Japan, International Service Learning (Kenya), Rainforest Immersion and Conservation Action (Costa Rica), Sustainable Agriculture (Switzerland and Italy), TESOL Summer Program in Mexico, Tropical Marine Biology (Mexico), 草榴社区 Tuscan Summer Program (Italy), and America and Vietnam.

Prior to the fair, the Career Services Center will conduct two workshops of interest to those who are considering employment or internships abroad:

  • International Work, Internships and TESL Opportunities: 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Viking Union Room 552. Explore opportunities for employment and internships abroad. This workshop also will include information about teaching English as a second language overseas.
  • International Opportunities for Teachers: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in Old Main Room 280. This workshop for certified K-12 teachers will discuss finding employment in international schools.
