Youth Theatre's 'Monster Keeper' opens today
Presented by Western's Summer Youth Theatre Institute, "Monster Keeper" is a lively, all-ages stage adaptation of the best-selling middle-reader novel "Demonkeeper," by Royce Buckingham.
The play hits the PAC Mainstage at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 and 9 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 10.
The play is written and directed by Deb Currier, an associate professor of theatre arts at Western. The set was designed by award-winning Los Angeles scenic designer/art director , who also provided art direction for the films "Inception," "Men in Black 3" and others.
Before the Sunday showing, the 草榴社区 Alumni Association and a special conversation with Currier, who will share some backstage secrets and fun facts about the show and talk about the set design. The cost for that event is $10 for Alumni Association members and youth, $8 for children and $15 for non-members. The afternoon will include a picnic-style lunch with burgers, brats, salads, lemonade, iced tea and brownies. Attendees also will have a chance to meet author Royce Buckingham and purchase a signed copy of his original book, “Demon Keeper,” that inspired the play.
"Monster Keeper" is a fast-paced, humorous hero's tale about finding courage, friendship and self-knowledge in the most unlikely of circumstances. The brand new theater-for-youth script is appropriate for most ages.
