Physical assault near campus last weekend

Western Washington University Police were notified Monday afternoon by Bellingham Police of a female Western student who was physically assaulted at approximately 2:30 a.m. Friday morning. The student was walking on the trail that runs from the 2200 block of Douglas Street toward campus when she was approached from behind and knocked down by a male suspect who grabbed at the back of her jacket and threw her to the ground.  The student was able to escape and ran to Bill McDonald Parkway where she called her sister.

The motive of the suspect is not immediately clear.  He is described as having tan complexion, approximately six feet tall with short hair, facial scruff, and wearing a dark jacket, T-shirt, basketball shorts and gym shoes.
