Power Down for Winter Break: Tips and Tricks from the Sustainability Engagement Institute
Calling all Western students, faculty, and staff — are you leaving Bellingham for the next few weeks? Conserve energy and keep your home safe by following these easy tips!
- Turn down the temperature (55F at minimum to prevent pipes freezing)
- Close all the windows and shades
- Turn off the lights
- Unplug any unused appliances to prevent "vampire power" usage from devices in standby mode
- Turn off any computers, printers, monitors, or other electronics
- Water your plants before you go and move them away from drafty windows
- Bring your bike indoors to prevent theft
