Pro Bowler Matt Overton to speak at Feb. 24 event on campus

Matt Overton, the Pro Bowl long snapper for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League, will share his story in a visit to the Western Washington University campus on Feb. 24.

Overton, a Western alumnus, will attend numerous events throughout the day, including an open forum at 2 p.m. in Haggard Hall Room 219 during which he'll chat about fitness, training, overcoming obstacles and chasing dreams.

After graduating from Western in 2007, Overton bounced around professional football for a few years, landing with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL for brief pre-season stints in 2007 and 2010 and various opportunities with teams in the Arena2 Football League and the United Football League.

Cut by the UFL's聽Omaha Nighthawks in 2011, Overton finally landed his dream gig in 2012, according to : He made the final roster of the Colts. His second season there just ended with an appointment to the Pro Bowl, reserved for the league's best players.

The Feb. 24 event at 草榴社区 is free and open to all who wish to attend. Special focus will be on athletic training. Active in the community, Overton will speak athletes making positive differences in their communities.

The event is sponsored by University Advancement and the Physical Education, Health and Recreation Department at 草榴社区.
