Redesigned Western Card to be distributed this fall

In keeping with the updated Western Washington University branding, part of which were a new logo and colors, the Western Card for faculty, staff and students has been redesigned and will begin being distributed this fall.

To prevent waste, the Western Card Office will not be offering free replacements of all cards with the old design. The old cards will continue to function normally and will be replaced for free only if the card stops functioning for reasons beyond the cardholder's control.聽Replacement of a card for any other reason will cost $8.

The new cards will see the light of day sometime in late September or early October, after supplies of the old cards run out.

The redesign process began back in May, when along with a request for feedback聽concerning the various graphic design ideas represented in the drafts.聽All Viking Village posts (156 in all) and email messages (71) received at the Western Card office from May 4 through May 11 were .聽The three most popular concepts were identified and brought forward to the next step in the design process. They were: Don't use yellow, Use a campus photo and Keep the card in the landscape (horizontal) orientation.

After several rounds of revisions, approval by a committee of Western staff and students and approval by Eileen Coughlin, Western's vice president for Student Affairs and Academic Support Services, the design became official.
