BELLINGHAM – Registrations for Western Washington University’s summer Institute for the Arts conference are being accepted through Monday, July 2.

Institute for the Arts, presented by Western’s College of Fine and Performing Arts, invites K-8 elementary educators from across Washington to Bellingham, July 16-20, to explore creative ways to integrate the arts into their classrooms.

With the growing trend of funding cuts in arts education, Institute for the Arts aims to empower in-service elementary educators across Washington to teach, both in disciplinary and interdisciplinary ways, arts education in their own classrooms, regardless of their personal skill level.

Participants will discover how drama, dance, visual art, music and storytelling can be used to enrich and enliven classroom learning and dynamic ways to approach core content standards and learning outcomes in academic subjects such as social studies, literacy, mathematics, and the arts.

Institute for the Arts is instructed by seven skilled Western faculty members and guest artists, each with extensive experience in p-12 education and the arts. Participants can earn 32-34 clock hours.

Details and registration are available at .  For registration questions, call Western Washington University Extended Education at (360) 650-3308.
