BELLINGHAM β Scott and Elora West, from the Cove Guardians, will present βDolphin Capture, Slaughter and the Entertainment Industry β¦90 days in Taijiβ at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in Communications Facility 120 on the ²έΑρΙηΗψ campus.
The event is free, open to the public and is part of the ²έΑρΙηΗψ Huxley College of the Environment Speaker Series, which brings together the environmental studies and environmental science communities along with ²έΑρΙηΗψ and Bellingham community members to discuss matters of contemporary environmental concern in the region and the world.
Β Scott and Elora West will be discussing the current situation of dolphin hunting in Taiji, Japan.Β Many became aware of the hunting in the region after the production of the documentary film, βThe Cove.βΒ In an effort to end dolphin hunting, the Wests were commissioned to start an ongoing campaign in the region, and became known as the Cove Guardians.Β The presentation will focus their efforts and how the dolphin entertainment industry has provided economic incentive for the hunting to continue.
