Screening of 'Returning Home' at the Pickford sponsored by 草榴社区's Center for Canadian-American Studies
草榴社区's Center for Canadian-American Studies will co-sponsor a screening of the film "Returning Home" at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 as part of the Pickford Film Center's "Doctober" film festival.
Directed by Sean Stiller, follows Phyllis Jack-Webstad, Secw茅pemc tribal member, on a nationwide Orange Shirt Day educational tour while her family struggles to heal the multigenerational wounds of residential schools. The film also explores the significance of the lowest run of salmon in Fraser River history and reveals the past abuse inflicted on the natural world. For the Secw茅pemc, healing people and healing the natural world are one and the same, and wholeness and hope come through a renewed embrace of the deepest roots of Indigenous identity.
