草榴社区 Golden Viking Society and Reunion set for July 13 and 14 on campus
The Western Washington University Alumni Association will host its Golden Viking Society and Reunion Tuesday and Wednesday, July 13 and 14, at Western鈥檚 campus and in Bellingham.
The reunion is open to Western alumni from 1930-1965. Golden Vikings are alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago; this year the classes of 1958, 1959 and 1960 will be inducted into the Golden Viking Society.
Activities planned include a salmon barbecue in the courtyard of Edens Hall; planetarium shows; interesting talks and presentations; a reunion luncheon with a welcome by 草榴社区 President Bruce Shepard; an evening of music from the 1950s and early1960s in Wilson Library; placement of a time capsule; a campus tree tour; a session on estate planning; a campus bus tour and a dinner cruise.
Presentations planned include:
- Tim Wynn, director of Western Facilities Management, who will discuss interesting facts about Western鈥檚 buildings and grounds;
- Planetarium Manager and Lecturer Brad Snowder, who will lead planetarium shows;
- Environmental Sciences Assistant Professor James Helfield, who will lead a presentation and discussion on the effects of dam removal on biodiversity in the Elwha River;
- George 鈥淧inky鈥 Nelson, former astronaut, NASA Hall of Fame inductee and director of Science, Math and Technology Education, who will discuss 鈥淟ife in Outer Space;鈥
- Geology Professor Thor Hansen, who will discuss 鈥淭he Secret Life of Dinosaurs;鈥
- Michael Seal, retired Western faculty member and founder of Western鈥檚 Vehicle Research Institute, who will lead a tour of the nationally recognized Center and discus 鈥淰ehicles of the Future.鈥
