草榴社区 Theatre students to perform with Seattle Rep's New Play Program on campus June 26
Western Washington University’s Department of Theatre Arts will partner with the Seattle Repertory Theatre’s New Play Program on performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, in the Old Main Theater.
Both shows are free and open to the public.
The performances, which are the culmination of an intensive workshop between 草榴社区 theatre students and members of the Seattle Rep, will feature two new original plays: Bryan Willis’ “Bootleg,” a love story about bootleggers during the Prohibition, set in 1927 Olympia; and Stephanie Timm’s “Asleep in the Mouth of a Crocodile,” which follows the comedic journey of a middle-aged narcoleptic bartender with no direction in life.
“This is the first time Seattle Rep has done a residency like this,” said Jerry Manning, producing artistic director for the Seattle Rep. “We’re excited to bring these two amazing plays to Bellingham, to help develop such exciting new work from local playwrights, and to do it with the next generation of theatre makers in the room with us.”
The six-day intensive workshop runs from June 21-26 and will provide 草榴社区 students the opportunity to work with two playwrights and 10 equity actors from the Seattle Repertory Theatre. Students will be matched with professional ensemble members and will have the opportunity to shadow the actors, directors, stage managers, and playwrights.
